How to Create a “Fart” Sound with a Monophonic Synthesizer

A synth fart sound is not about beauty or musicality.
It’s about low frequency, pitch instability, air, and awkward timing.

In simple terms, a fart sound consists of:

• a low tone
• a fast pitch drop
• a bit of air / noise
• a short, uncontrolled envelope

The less polite it sounds, the better.

1. Oscillator (Low and Ugly)

• Waveform: Triangle or Sine
  (Sawtooth also works, but sounds dirtier)
• Octave: As low as possible

Why:
Smooth waveforms feel more “physical” and body-like than bright waves.

2. Filter (Muffled and Thick)

• Filter Type: Low-Pass
• Cutoff: Very low
• Resonance: Minimal or off

You want a soft, muffled thump, not a whistling tone.

3. Amp Envelope (Short and Uncontrolled)

• Attack: 0
• Decay: Short to medium
• Sustain: 0
• Release: Short

A fart does not sustain cleanly.
It starts, happens, and disappears awkwardly.

4. Pitch Movement (This Is the Joke)

Option A: Pitch Envelope (Best)

• Pitch Envelope Amount: Medium
• Attack: 0
• Decay: Very short

Result:

• Waveform: Triangle or Random
• Rate: Slow to medium
• Depth: Very subtle

Adds instability and wobble.

5. Add Air (Optional but Highly Effective)

If your synth has noise:

• Add a small amount of white noise
• Filter it heavily (low-pass)

This simulates air pressure escaping — crucial for realism.

6. Extra Realism (Optional)

• LFO → Filter Cutoff
• Very slow
• Very small amount

This makes the sound feel unstable and “alive”.

7. Playing Technique (Very Important)

• Use very short notes
• Try different pitches:
  • Lower notes = wetter / heavier
